Great chopper, cheap transmitter. June 16, 2009 J. Morrison (Utah,USA) 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
The helicopter flies great once you get it trimmed. The main problem is the transmitter. The "rudder" or yaw is on the right stick (why?). That is why I only gave it 2 stars for "educational value". The trim for the rudder is also reversed. I thought maybe it was just a defect but we have two of these and they are the same way. The instructions are kind of worthless and hard to follow as they are from china.
If you can find a way to use a different radio or fix the rudder so it is on the left stick I would say this is a great first helicopter. It only take 1 1/2 hours to charge and gives you about 8 mins of flight time as a previous review says. Actually, that is not to bad for only a 1 1/2 hour charge time.
AH-64 Feral Beast Review June 3, 2009 Hobie Trivitte (San Diego, CA) I purchased this helo after having read and reread numerous reviews about the various incarnations of this rc model. Opting for the most expensive 4 channel version, I had my hopes set high as I diligently read the manual, charged the battery, adjusted the trim, etc., etc. It flew well (mostly), and survived a hard landing in the street in addition to numerous softer crashes into the surrounding shrubs. I adjusted the four trim tabs on the remote, and was seriously considering adjusting the trim on the helo itself when my neighbor's dog snatched it out of the sky, and shook his head violently. This dislodged a shim that keeps the main shaft steady. Thus, the gears became misaligned, and then stripped. I am grounded until I can get a replacement part... With luck, you may be able to adjust the trim on the helo, and achieve better flights than I did. NOTE: You will NOT get 15-20 minute flights. This helo is heavy, and will give you 8 minute flights on a 1 1/2 hour charge. I recommend you get the cheaper 4 channel model. It will probably fly just as well as this one.
Great features for the price. High quality unit. January 17, 2009 Hermit58 (Carlsbad, NM United States) 8 out of 8 found this review helpful
I looked high and low for a decent low-priced multi-channel RC helicopter. After trying a few cheap models, I ran into this one. It's got all the features of a more expensive unit, and is very well built. One of the stabilizer bar weights did spin off, but I should have checked that. Rather than buy the whole assembly, I just Gorilla-glued a same-weighted cap nut to the end, and it works great. I've crashed this copter a few times, but never real hard - yet. It's survived the crashes well. Keep an eye on the ball-joint connection from the stabilizer to the upper blades. It comes off easy in a crash, but at least it doesn't break! Otherwise, no other damage in medium-harsh crashes. It seems heavy, but the batteries are very powerful, and easily lift the unit to hover. I haven't perfected the controls yet, but it's not a kid's toy. I'd consider this a high quality entry-level amateur RC unit. For the money, you certainly can't go wrong.
