 Dune devil - great indoor fun September 15, 2008

this is a great rc car for an up and coming racer. I would recommend indoor in a large room or outdoor undercover. Its quite fast for a toy too and resilient, the one we gave as a gift has jumpoed off many a stair and lands on its wheels and keeps on driving. Its by no means hobby grade but the price reflects this. BUy the rechargable battery pack when you find one, it eats baterries, as does an good rc car though. I found the 9.6 pack from newbright fit perfectly too and was cheaper.

It has great performance and speed for USD $27 plus the 9.6V battery pack. I've already used my car for a month and everything is still intact.This is one tough little R/C car.For all you folks that want to modify your car, I just upgraded the tires to XTM Racing spikeys, they cost me $9.99.The upgraded tires are the same tires that fit the XTM Racing Rage 4WD RTR car.It really helps grip the ground better.I'll keep the original tires as spares.The car feels great!

After getting the 9.6 v. battery this little car turns into a ground tearing monster. is good for running it at no more that 60-ft. so, you will find yourself outrunning your frequency a lot! its radio can only carry two AA batteries making the antenna very weak. Why?! MATTEL! Why?! the motor is great. very responsive. the semi pneumatic tires makes it stick onto the ground like glue. i off-road it and i have never seen so much dust lifted by such inexpensive toy. this guy is a jumper too. very durable. but be careful to not overdrive it. it will stop running for a while. the solution lies in holding one of the back tires and press reverse. this will slowly turn the wheels. but be nice to it. buy two and race it both the green and the white.

I have owned many Pro R/C cars (ie. Duratrax, Traxxis, Tamaya, etc). Now that my son is interested (3 yrs old), I wanted a "toy" R/C car for him knowing that it would mostly be hitting curves. That said, I wanted something that could drive on grass and still be fun to use for me when I'm with him. br / br /This is the R/C car I ended up with, and boy does it fit the ticket! br /Here's my pro's and con's: br / br /PROS: br /(1) Fully independent front suspension with spring shocks. No, they are not oil dampened but they WORK compared to most toy R/C's that have NO suspension! The rear suspension has the same shocks but is simplified, you have a solid rear axle; it works well enough. br /(2) Working rear differential! Just like the pro cars, if one wheel has no traction, the other gets all the torque. br /(3) Pneumatic tires. Just like the pro cars, the tires are soft and flexible (not hard like most toy cars). br /(4) If you remove the AA battery adapter, you can purchase any 8-cell AA NiCad or NiMh pack. Performance doubles. I purchased a 1600mAh NiMh pack from Radioshack and have yet to run it down after 45 minutes! br /(5) Indestructable. I can't tell you how many curbs and jumps we've done. Only scratches on the outer shell. br /(6) FOUR forward speeds and one reverse. Most toy cars that 1/1. br / br /CONS: br /(1) Steering is not proportional. That is, you only have FULL left and FULL right. All toy cars are this way though. br /(2) RANGE! Range is horrible. The transmitter is powered by only two AA batteries. I originally got under 20 ft without a modification I describe below. br / br /TRANSMITTER MODIFICATION FOR ADDITIONAL RANGE br / br /This simple mod involves replacing the 2xAA batteries with a standard 9Volt battery. br /This will void your warranty and you do it at your own risk. br /I am able to get over 80ft with this car now by juicing the transmitter up to 9 volts. Here's how: br /(1) Remove all the screws from the back of the transmitter. br /(2) Pull the rear cover apart. br /(3) Pull out the existing AA batter holder and CUT both the red and black wire to remove it. br /(4) Solder or wrap a 9V battery connector (the "hat") to the cut wires. You can go to radioshack or cut them off some old electronic item you have. br /(5) Put the hole thing back together (don't put the old AA battery holder back in). br /(6) Insert new 9V battery. The battery cover will stay in as long as a 9V battery is installed; you'll see what I mean. br /(7) You now have double the range!!!!! br /ENJOY! br / br / br / br / br / br /

*UPDATED*I just received this a month ago. I have only tried it with the 9.6v battery, but I would say it has excellent power. No problems in the grass, but it does slow down some. I am buying the white one for my 6 yr old son, so we can BOTH enjoy the fun.Overall very happy with the price i paid at $27.00.Hot Wheels Dune Devil Pro Radio Control Vehicle, Green
